The trials and tribulations to building in Second Life continue on during the past week's class. Thankfully, we're not starting from wireframes and having to shape textures on them. I'm not sure if this just me, but now that we're building in Second Life and in OpenSim, my software seems to be terribly buggy. In terms of computer horse power, I think it should be a non-issue with a MacBook Pro 2.8 Core i7 with 16GB of RAM and running the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB. However, in both environments, it takes forever to get everything working correctly which is extremely frustrating. Menus disappear, environment crashes, logins to both environments constantly have issues. I can't possibly see how this would work for others who are trying to develop content for a class/course or for a larger use.
After all of the issues with the software and getting things to work, it's difficult to catch up with things being done in class. Thankfully I have a 34" monitor that I use to build on, while having the instructions up on a vertical 24" HiRes display. While practice makes better, it's a matter of trying to get both OpenSim and Second Life to be functional so that I can practice building.
